HSU Trustee Leigh King sent me this about her grandson, Hayes Roan who is at Cooks Hospital:
Hayes began having blood in his stool Monday AM. His blood counts were dropping & he was becoming lethargic. He was given a blood transfusion Tues which helped a bit, but not enough, so the decision was made to send him to Cook .
The doctors are now suspecting that he has some sort of allergy/intolerance to the proteins in milk that is irritating his intestinal lining. After spending 27 days in the NICU at Hendrick, he has run out of good veins to use for IVs, so yesterday AM, he had a procedure to insert a PICC line through which nutrients can be given directly into the blood stream. They have restricted him from all oral feedings for a full 7 days to let his intestinal track rest & heal and his line will be much more stable since it will need be in for such a long time. Unfortunately, this doesn’t make him feel full & the little guy is hungry!!
In the mean time, we wait & Keathley (our daughter) will remove all things that contain any milk products from her diet. Once the 7 days are over, they will slowly begin to reintroduce feeds beginning with 1/4 tsp & see how he tolerates it.
Thanks again for thinking of us & please continue to lift them up in prayer.
