I received this from Randall Maurer today:
We will be in Dallas until the end of January. Yesterday (Dec. 31) Linda was given a 30 minute infusion of powerful chemo which will destroy any remaining cancer cells as well as her own bone marrow. She is feeling a little nauseous this morning but the worst will come in 3 to 5 days. Otherwise, she is doing fine.
Tomorrow they will begin infusing her stem cells–a simply blood transfusion of cells collected from her a few weeks ago. The stem cells will regenerate her bone marrow. Respiratory treatments and other preventative measures will begin today to prepare her for when she is unable to fend off infection. She will be in the hospital for a week to 10 days and then will be outpatient here in Dallas for another couple of weeks. I’m staying, and Linda will be staying, in a very nice hotel just a mile from the hospital. The hotel (Homewood Suites) caters to patients and provides breakfast every day and dinner 4 days a week.
Pray for minimal side effects, rapid recovery of her bone marrow, and resistance to infection.
Linda is in St. Paul’s (one of the University Hospitals) in room 815.
